How much do Gumroad and Stan Store take?

Gumroad takes 10% + $0.50 per direct sale and Stan takes 0% but charges $29 a month. Both pay the same 2.9% + $0.30 card rate, so the question is whether Gumroad’s percentage costs more than Stan’s plan.

Gumroad’s fee drops to 5% + $0.50 after $20,000 of sales in a calendar month. Stan’s annual billing brings Creator down to $25 a month and Creator Pro to $79.

What do you keep at different sales levels?

The figures below are arithmetic on published fees, not reported earnings. They assume $10 products, US cards, direct sales on Gumroad, Stan’s Creator plan billed monthly and one Stan cash out a month.

Monthly sales Gumroad Stan Creator
$100, 10 sales $79 $64
$200, 20 sales $158 $158
$1,000, 100 sales $791 $909
$5,000, 500 sales $3,955 $4,664

At $200 a month the two land on the same $158. Below that, Gumroad wins because an idle month costs nothing. Above it, each extra $10 sale costs $2.09 on Gumroad and $0.59 on Stan, so at $5,000 a month Stan leaves about $709 more.

There is a catch at the low end. Gumroad’s scheduled payouts need a $100 balance, so the $79 from a $100 month waits in your account until later sales push it over.

Stan Creator Pro moves the break-even to about $670 a month, because its $99 price has to beat Gumroad’s percentage. On $1,000 of sales Creator Pro leaves $839, still ahead of Gumroad’s $791.

Cheap products tilt things further toward Stan. Gumroad’s fees take about $1.19 of a $3 sale, or 40%, and $0.80 of that is flat charges, while Stripe’s $0.39 on Stan takes about 13% before the plan. Our guide to creator platform fees explains how flat and percentage fees compare.

How do Gumroad and Stan Store pay out?

Stan pays when you ask and Gumroad pays on a schedule once you pass $100. We score Stan 7 and Gumroad 6 on payouts.

Stan card sales become available to cash out about 2 business days after the sale, up to 7. You press Cash Out once at least $10 is available, withdraw the whole balance and get the money in 24 to 48 hours, less the 0.25% + $0.25 Stripe payout fee. PayPal sales skip the balance and land straight in your PayPal account.

Gumroad pays daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly once your balance reaches $100. Weekly and longer schedules hold each sale for 7 days, US bank payouts go out on Thursdays and transfers take 2 to 7 business days to land. Eligible US creators can take an instant payout from $1 for a 3% fee.

Which brings you more buyers?

Gumroad does, because Stan has no marketplace at all. Gumroad scores 5 on discovery in our reviews and Stan scores 1.

Gumroad’s Discover marketplace shows your products to people browsing Gumroad. You qualify after $100 in genuine sales, completed payout settings and a risk review that takes about 3 weeks on average. Discover sales cost a flat 30%, so a $10 sale leaves $7.00 instead of $7.91 direct. That is 91 cents more for a buyer you would not otherwise have reached, which we think is a fair price.

Stan sells only to the audience you send it. The Creator plan includes lead magnets that collect email addresses and Stan AutoDM, which sends automatic Instagram replies. Creator Pro adds funnels, email broadcasts and pixel tracking for Meta, Google, Pinterest and TikTok. What features actually differ?

Stan Store is a bio-link storefront built for selling to social followers, and Gumroad is a product store with tax handling and a marketplace attached. The differences that change the decision:

Feature Gumroad Stan Store
Sales tax Merchant of record, remits sales tax and VAT worldwide Calculates and collects through Stripe in your registered tax region
Email to buyers Emails and Workflows, no plan fee Broadcasts and flows on Creator Pro
Affiliates Built in, Discover products join automatically Affiliate management on Creator Pro
Payment account Gumroad’s own accounts, no own Stripe for new sellers outside Brazil Stan-managed Stripe account, no existing Stripe

Sales tax is the biggest practical gap. Gumroad has been merchant of record since January 1, 2025, so you never register or file for those sales. Stan’s help center says Stripe will only collect tax from customers in your registered tax region and recommends a tax professional for other regions, so treat registration and filing as yours. Our creator taxes guide covers the basics.

Stan’s $29 plan already covers downloads, a course builder, paid calls, memberships and a community. Discount codes, upsells, order bumps, Afterpay, Klarna and payment plans need the $99 plan.

Both score 5 on ownership. Gumroad lets you export buyers to CSV, but membership billing stays with Gumroad. Stan runs your money through a Stripe account it manages, so you cannot bring the one you already have.

Which should you choose?

Stan Store wins for creators with a following and steady sales, and Gumroad wins for a first product, for creators who want no sales tax paperwork and for marketplace reach. Our list of the best platforms for digital products ranks both against Payhip and Podia.
