Our verdict

Spotify for Creators hosts podcasts for free. The Spotify Partner Program pays 50% of ad revenue plus Premium video revenue to shows with 3 episodes, 2,000 consumption hours and 1,000 audience members in 30 days, across 56 markets. Memberships, which replaced Podcast Subscriptions on October 20, 2026, keep 90% of fan payments with processing included.

Spotify for Creators hosts podcasts for free, and the Spotify Partner Program pays eligible shows 50% of ad revenue plus a share of Premium subscription money when members watch their video episodes. The bar dropped in January 2026 to 3 episodes, 2,000 consumption hours and 1,000 audience members in 30 days, and the program now covers 56 markets. On October 20, 2026, Spotify also turned Podcast Subscriptions into Memberships with a flat 10% fee. For a video podcast that does not sell its own ads, we think this is the most direct route to getting paid by a platform.

How much does Spotify for Creators take?

Spotify for Creators charges nothing for hosting, keeps 50% of the ad revenue it generates in your episodes and takes 10% of Memberships revenue, as of October 2026. The 10% covers payment processing, currency conversion and payout fees, which makes it simpler than most membership fees.

Product What the creator keeps Notes
Hosting Free, unlimited Includes RSS distribution to other apps
Partner Program ads 50% of ad revenue On Spotify and on other podcast apps
Premium video revenue Unpublished formula Video episodes watched by Premium members in eligible markets
Memberships 90% Taxes deducted where the law requires
Legacy Podcast Subscriptions Price minus 5.5% processing and 0.8% to 1.6% currency fees Until each old subscriber cancels
Sponsorships you sell 100% Partner Program members, video episodes only

Spotify explains that free hosting is paid for by its share of ad revenue from monetized shows. So the real cost of hosting here shows up as the 50% ad split once you join the Partner Program.

How do Spotify for Creators payouts work?

Spotify pays Partner Program earnings monthly to a bank account through Spotify Payouts, and Memberships earnings through Stripe on a rolling 30-day schedule. Both have a $10 minimum.

Earnings Payout service Schedule Minimum
Partner Program Spotify Payouts Monthly, usually in the last two weeks $10 local deposit, $100 wire
Memberships Stripe Rolling 30 days $10

New Partner Program members wait through a 30-day onboarding period before the first payout, and the money reaches the bank within 7 business days of the payout date. Once you earn $1,000 or more in a month, Spotify requires 2-step verification, and payouts are held if you have not set it up within 30 days. Spotify Payouts only pays to bank accounts.

Balances under the minimum roll over to the next month. To stay in the Partner Program, a show must publish an episode and earn at least $10 in any 6-month period. You can pause the program from the Monetize page, but ads can take up to 10 business days to stop on other podcast apps, and a pause longer than 6 months can get the show removed.

How do you make money on Spotify for Creators?

Spotify for Creators has four ways to earn, and only the Partner Program depends on audience size above a small floor.

The Spotify Partner Program

To apply for the Spotify Partner Program, a show needs all of these:

  • hosting on Spotify for Creators, or with an outside host that supports the program
  • a legal address in an eligible market
  • at least 3 published episodes
  • at least 2,000 consumption hours on Spotify in the last 30 days
  • at least 1,000 audience members on Spotify in the last 30 days

Spotify cut those numbers on January 7, 2026 from 12 episodes, 10,000 hours and 2,000 listeners. Every application still goes through a policy review. Spotify counts a stream once someone plays an episode for 60 seconds or more.

Every episode needs at least one ad break to earn anything. Free listeners and anyone on other podcast apps hear Spotify’s ads, and you get half that revenue. Premium members in eligible markets watch video episodes without dynamic ads, and Spotify pays you through a formula based on factors such as their consumption time and where they are registered. Spotify does not publish that formula, and audio-only episodes earn no Premium video revenue.

The program launched in the US, UK, Canada and Australia on January 2, 2025. Spotify announced more than 35 new markets on September 17, 2026, including Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico, and its support page now lists 56. Spotify’s old invite-only Ads beta closed on October 19, 2026, and shows that did not move over must reapply.

Shows hosted elsewhere need their host to support the program. Spotify’s January 2026 announcement said creators on hosts that use its new Distribution API can join without switching, and named Acast, Audioboom, Libsyn, Omny and Podigee as launch partners. Spotify’s support page tells everyone else to ask their host.

Memberships

Memberships let you charge for member-only episodes, early access, ad-free listening or video, in up to 3 tiers with your own prices. A new show qualifies with 3 published episodes, 100 consumption hours and 100 listeners or viewers on Spotify in the last 30 days, and shows that used Podcast Subscriptions keep their eligibility. Memberships are open in 34 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and most of the EU.

Members who choose to share their email address can be exported, which gives you a contact list outside Spotify. You can also offer Premium listeners a 7-day free trial.

Sponsorships

Partner Program members can sell host-read sponsorships into video episodes and keep 100% of that money. Spotify’s tools let you swap, schedule and track those spots without baking them into the upload.

Open Access

If you already run paid podcasts through Patreon or Supporting Cast, Spotify Open Access lets those members listen on Spotify. The partner platform handles payments and its own fees.

Who is Spotify for Creators best for?

Spotify for Creators suits video podcasters in one of the 56 eligible markets who would rather let Spotify sell ads than chase sponsors. Free hosting plus the 50% ad split and Premium video revenue is a strong package for a show with steady weekly listeners.

Skip it as your only income if you make an audio-only show, live outside the eligible markets, or want to know your rate in advance. Memberships look fair at 10% all in, but they are brand new, so we would wait a few months before moving a large paying audience onto them.
