Snapchat pays creators through one invite-only Monetization Program that shares revenue from ads placed in Public Stories and Spotlight. As of October 2026 you need 50,000 followers, 15,000 hours of view time in 28 days with 3,000 from Spotlight, and Snap Star status, and Snap does not publish its revenue share. Cash-outs start at $100 and can happen daily.
Snapchat shares ad revenue with creators, but only with established creators it invites. As of October 2026, an invitation to the Monetization Program needs 50,000 followers, 15,000 hours of view time in the last 28 days with 3,000 from Spotlight, and verified Snap Star status. Snap doesn’t publish what share of ad revenue you get. If you clear the bar, the daily $100 cash-out is one of the faster payout setups in social media. If you don’t, Snapchat is a place to grow, not to earn.
How much does Snapchat take?
Snapchat doesn’t publish its split. Snap places ads between Snaps in your Public Stories and inside Spotlight, and pays creators in the program a share of that revenue at a rate it keeps private.
| Revenue source | How you earn | Published split |
|---|---|---|
| Public Stories | Share of revenue from ads placed between your Snaps | None |
| Spotlight | Share of revenue from ads within Spotlight, on videos of 30 seconds or more | None |
| Creator Subscriptions | Monthly fees from subscribers, invite-only | None |
| Brand partnerships | Fees agreed directly with brands | Set by the deal |
Snap says it serves ads mainly according to how long people spend watching your Stories and Spotlight videos, and it recommends meaningful, lengthy and engaging posts. Watch time is the only lever Snap describes. With no published split, we can’t give a take-home figure for Snapchat.
How do Snapchat payouts work?
Snapchat lets creators cash out in the app whenever they want, as often as once a day, once they have at least $100. Payments go through Hyperwallet, and you must finish payout onboarding before your first cash-out.
Payouts work in 43 countries and regions for Story ad earnings, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, Brazil and most of Western Europe. Creator Subscriptions earnings appear in the same Creator Rewards Hub, labeled separately, and cash out the same way.
How do you make money on Snapchat?
The Monetization Program
Snapchat merged its creator payments into one Monetization Program, which pays on both Stories and Spotlight. Snap reviews creators and invites them by email, and it says it never charges for an invitation. As of October 2026, invitations go to creators who:
- Have at least 50,000 followers.
- Reach 15,000 hours of view time over the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 hours from Spotlight.
- Are at least 18, or the age of majority in their country.
- Post original, advertiser-friendly content that follows Snap’s Community Guidelines and recommendation rules.
- Live in an eligible country.
- Are verified Snap Stars.
- Follow Snap’s Monetization Terms and Creator Monetization Policy.
Since May 7, 2026, creators in the program must also keep at least 100 hours of total Spotlight view time on their posts over the last 28 days to qualify for maximum Creator Rewards. Snap shows the number at the top of Insights under Daily Rewards Eligibility. Spotlight videos must be at least 30 seconds long to earn anything.
What content earns on Snapchat
Snap’s Creator Monetization Policy pays for original work or content you transform in a substantial way. Reaction videos count only if your face stays visible, you actually speak, and your reaction relates to the clip. Reviews that use excerpts and creatively edited compilations can qualify.
Snap won’t pay for unaltered clips from TV, movies or music videos, re-uploads of other people’s posts, repetitive template content or misleading tiles that promise more than the Snap delivers. Content made with AI tools can earn if it’s original and you disclose the AI use in the content or your profile.
Snap Star status
A Snap Star is Snapchat’s verified creator badge, and you need one to monetize. You apply with a form, and Snap weighs account engagement, regular public Stories, authenticity, notability and content quality. General interest accounts don’t qualify, and Snap may verify people who are well known outside Snapchat even if their Snapchat audience is small. Snap says no one is entitled to a Snap Star, regardless of audience size.
Spotlight
Spotlight no longer has its own payment program. The Spotlight Rewards Program ended on January 31, 2025, and Snap folded Spotlight earnings into the Monetization Program so invited creators can earn on both formats. Anyone can still post to Spotlight to grow a following, which is the realistic path for creators below 50,000 followers.
Creator Subscriptions
Creator Subscriptions let fans pay a monthly fee through their device’s app store for subscriber-only benefits. Those can include direct Snaps to all subscribers, a subscriber-only Story, priority Story replies and subscriber badges. Snap says the feature is still rolling out to select creators by invitation, and there is no way to apply yet. It doesn’t publish the revenue split.
Brand partnerships
Creators who turn on Brand Partnerships in settings can be found by brands in Snap’s Creator Marketplace. Snap says authenticity, engagement and content quality decide eligibility, and sponsored posts carry a Paid Partnership Label. What changed on Snapchat in 2025 and 2026?
Snapchat has changed creator pay twice since the start of 2025. Spotlight’s separate rewards ended, and full rewards now depend on Spotlight view time.
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| January 31, 2025 | Spotlight Rewards Program ended and the Spotlight Terms terminated |
| After January 31, 2025 | Invited creators earn on Stories and Spotlight through the unified Monetization Program |
| May 7, 2026 | Full Creator Rewards need 100 hours of Spotlight view time every 28 days |
| October 2026 | Creator Subscriptions still rolling out to select, invited creators |
If you earned Spotlight Rewards before the program closed, you can request payment for up to 2 years from Snap’s in-app notice that you qualified. After that, Snap says it pays the money to your payment account, provided you followed the Spotlight Terms.
Who is Snapchat best for?
Snapchat suits creators who already have a large Snapchat audience and post Stories and Spotlight videos often. For them, the daily $100 cash-out is a real advantage over monthly payout schedules elsewhere.
Skip Snapchat as an income source if you’re under 50,000 followers or don’t have Snap Star status. You can’t apply to the Monetization Program directly, and Snap gives no timeline for invitations. Grow on Spotlight if your audience is there, and earn on platforms with open programs.
